Event Overview

Join us for the 1st annual New Glarus Wood Trail Run! As part of the Savanna Trail Run Series, proceeds from this event go to the Friends of New Glarus Woods State Park. We aim to host a top notch trail run that highlights our park and our town. Stick around after the race for awards and other activities.

8:00am - Parking lot shuttle starts
8:00am - Registration and packet pickup open at park pavilion
9:30am - Start of the 10m race
9:40am - Start of the 5m race
9:42am - Start of the 1 mile run/walk
11:00am - Party in the Park begins
11:15am - 1/4 mile kids run
11:30am - Awards ceremony

The Races

5m and 10m Trail Run Description - Course Map

The course begins with a gentle downhill on the Sugar River Trail before turning onto double track trails for the rest of the 5 mile loop. The 10 milers will continue on for a similar loop. You'll see two aid stations on each loop of the course. The 5 and 10 milers are open to runners 14 and up. Register by July 31st to receive a shirt!

The top overall M/F finishers in each race will receive awards, as will the top 3 participants in the following age groups: <21, 21-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+.

Think you have a good sense of pace? For the 10 milers, we will present a Consistency award for the runner with the most even pace throughout the race.

Community 1 Mile Run/Walk - Course Map

The 1 mile course start down the Sugar River Trail, and then turn to trails for the remainder of the course. Youth 13 & under will receive a time and receive a special medal for completing the run. Adult participants in the 1m will not be timed. Please note that participants in the Community 1-Mile will not receive a t-shirt.

Kids Run

A 1/4 fun run for kids 7 and under. Each participant will receive a special bib finisher ribbon.

Parking, Shuttle, and Bag Drop

Parking

Event parking will be in the south lot at New Glarus High School (click here for map and directions). Parking within the park is very limited and requires a park pass. Please head straight to the parking lot at the school to avoid congestion at the park that might delay the event.

Parking Shuttle

We are providing a shuttle from the school to the park. Before the race, the shuttle will run from 8–9:10am, with a loop taking about 10 minutes. Pickup will be from the sidewalk at the southeast corner of the high school and drop you off by the pavilion in the park (shuttle route). After the event, the shuttle will run in reverse from 11am to 1pm.

Alternatively, you might want to walk or jog a mile up the Sugar River Trial. It’s about a mile (uphill!) and you will be checking out a portion of the course along the way.

Bag Drop

For your convenience we are providing a bag drop near the finish line. There is a tag on your bib that you can attach to your packet or your backpack, and you will need your bib to retrieve your belongings after the race. We are not responsible for lost or damaged items, so please leave valuables or fragile items at home.

Afterparty!

Each participant's bib has tickets for a brat and a drink (beer or soft drink). Bring some cash for the Pudgey's food truck, or a small optional donation for a Limburger cheese sandwich or extra food from the event.

Per DNR rules, you will need a valid ID to consume alcoholic beverages, no matter what age group you are in :)

Stay the weekend and enjoy the all the food, drink, and attractions that "Swisstown" has to offer! We have a block of rooms reserved right up the road at the Swiss Aire Motel, just say you are with the trail run. Or even better, reserve a campsite right in the park and take the short walk downtown!
